While I was staying at my friends' house this weekend I had some time to kill so I made two new jersey necklaces- I gifted them to Court because they're totally her style and I love seeing people wear my work. I'm really feeling the pastely watery effect that happened with the dye job on the blue piece. 

I guess we traded jewelry because she had given me this single earring from the Fleathers jewelry line- it sells at Topstitch in Old City, but you non-Philadelphians can buy on their Etsy. This morning we both wore the earrings out to coffee- kinda cheesy, yeah but they're too cool. I love the single earring look, and these are the perfect mix of delicate and tough that I'm all about these days!

grey like today

this is my day-after outfit: i had my final critique last night, went out to celebrate the holiday and didn't make it home before i had to be back at school today. i had my collection garments and accessories with me, so on went the pants and the shoes with a borrowed tee.

russian roulette

During the Fall Semester of this year, I took a class called Problem Solving; we made garments out of unusual materials, from shower curtains to candy wrappers to bubble wrap. One of the assignments was to create a garment based on a game. My choice, in an effort to stay away from the inevitable board and card game genre, was Russian Roulette.



This shot is from the class critique, so it's not great quality, but as you can see I used paper, tulle, netting, and bullets to create this stormy outfit. (Model: Claire Galusha)

Our task was then to create a full collection based off this assignment. I expanded on the idea of darkness, storms, volume, and shape to come up with the following ten piece collection: First is the mood board, then illustrations (which still need Photoshop work), then flat sketches.




Still love it! The oversized shapes and cropped shirts are so right now.

jersey girl

Well, here I go attempting an outfit post- I just got a camera for an early graduation present and am very excited about using it! This is what I wore out on Friday night for a Bat for Lashes show, which was unfortunately sold out. We ended up wandering Old City, going to a Jewish Feast, stealing flowers, and smoking hookah... Definitely still a successful night.

Dress, vintage. Sweater, DKNY. Belt, thrifted.

Shoes, thrifted. Earrings, unknown. Necklace, selfmade.

I love the cutouts in the sleeves! It's just a huge shapeless dress but with beautiful details and coloring.

I made this for my second senior collection and am so happy to finally be able to wear it. It's hand-dyed cotton jersey, just tied, knotted, and looped.

These shoes are SO comfortable- they have about a five inch wedge but I can wear them all day. Such a good color, too.

Little Scribbles

I promised illustrations, and here they are. For some reason, my professor requested black and white illustrations at this point in the semester rather than fully rendered ones, so as a result they're extremely pared down. The first image is my mood board- I tried to capture the elements of layering and sheer distressed fabrics that will be throughout my collection.

I'm fully constructing numbers 3, 5, and 6, though they've already changed dramatically since I drew these two weeks ago. First on the list is 5, the jumpsuit. I'm loving it so far, though I might be singing a different tune in two weeks when it's due...

Chrysalis S/S 2010

Here's a peek of what's churning through my mind right now- I have these all in my sketchbook for texture and color inspiration. Todd Selby. photographer, has one of the most amazing websites I have ever seen- hordes of beautiful photos from people's homes and spaces, each one better than the last. I can browse through and constantly see some new little treasure or color combination. These gems are all from his site. The first is my complete color story amazingly summarized in a single shot.









My silhouettes are inspired by the chrysalis: its shape, the beauty of that delicate sheer shell, the meaning of its protection and promise of emerging beauty, and the comfort of being surrounded. I found this fashion film recently that captures some of that fragility- Show Studio's "Chrysalis".

First pictures from my collection 1 critique! I was beyond obsessed with this collection, spending far far too many sleepless nights on it throughout the past four months. The photos don't have good lighting or composition but here they are anyways:
