I checked out the Artstar Craft Bazaar at Penn's Landing this afternoon, and I just have to say I am so impressed with the work people put out there. It's so difficult to start a business, and through events like these and the wonder that is Etsy, it is actually possible to sustain a craft based business with relatively low start up costs. Most of the artists and crafters in attendance did not have stores but operated out of galleries or boutiques, or solely online. As an aspiring business owner, I was extremely inspired to get myself together! It takes so much hard work but I know that's what I want to be doing; I can't wait for my first paycheck so I can get some supplies and jump in.

I was wandering the stalls, seriously impressed with the talent, but looking for something with a little bit of an edge, when I ran across this booth and fell in love. I'm so into this grungy, beat up, midwestern kind of feel and seriously need some jewelry to match. I've been wearing my feather earring almost every day because I honestly have nothing else. A piece from this collection will definitely be one of my upcoming purchases!

This company does printing and jewelry out of their Brooklyn studio. I was really into the charm necklaces with little daggers, saws, or shovels. They were doing custom work at the craft show, with special combinations of charms; so bummed I couldn't take advantage of the opportunity!

Sea Grape Soap

My one purchase today was a roll on fragrance from Sea Grape. I bought the Devi blend, which is a combination of jojoba oil, essential oils of lavender, orange, ylang ylang, and sage, with dried rose petals. It's sooooo good. I'm a sucker for a great natural fragrance that doesn't smell too earthy or patchouli-like. She had some great peppermint based ones, like the Morningstar Headache relief, that were more about aromatherapy than perfume but seriously smelled amazing. I'm sure her soaps and candles are great as well. 

I was seriously searching for some massive chain necklaces or layered neckpieces but couldn't find anything. Come on Philly, get with it!

Slumdog Millionare is a fantastic movie, straight up. It deserves everything it was awarded. I won't natter on about the story because I'm sure you all know the basics. My obsession has more to do with the colors used throughout the film. In perhaps the height of pretension, I had interior design on the mind because of my upcoming move. How's that for you; paint jobs based on the slums of Mumbai? Either way, I was extremely inspired by the faded brights, browns, yellows, and royal purples. Traditional Bollywood color schemes are overwhelming for the most part, but seen though a mask of dust and grime I think they become more beautiful. Also, as my roommate has an obsession with Indian culture and bright colors, this source of inspiration may be the perfect compromise of our aesthetics. I can't wait to start on this project! Only two months to go.

When my mother was planning the family's trip to visit me in Philadelphia this past weekend, she asked if there was anything I'd always wanted to see but hadn't. Instantly, I thought of the Mutter Museum. Started as a learning tool for future doctors, it now focuses on historical information regarding anatomical and biological oddities. Not for the faint of heart, or weak of stomach, this museum showcases everything from conjoined twins to the many diseases of the eye to a collection of objects extracted from people's throats. So crazy weird. I liked drawing the skulls, and really enjoyed the webby blood vessels. They looked like felt and chiffon! This place is definitely worth a visit if you're into the abnormal.

I bought this skirt yesterday with the plan to dye it; my current interest in blue and washed out tones made me decide to dip dye it. I might go back and increase the contrast, maybe even getting it to be indigo at the top to white at the bottom. Still, I'm into the subtle pastel and can think of so many ways to wear it; next I think I'll go tougher and pair it with a chopped off gray tee or tank to accentuate the super tight high waist. The classic/feminine pairing I have here is more of an exercise in monochrome, as I tend to stay away from head-to-toe color and have to force myself sometimes not to dress in only black and grey. With summer, though, I can see whites, peaches, and blues in my future. 

Also, coming soon: massive amounts of alterations and DIYs, as I scored big this week- something like 14 items of clothing for $13!? Killer.

The Motorcycle Diaries is a seriously brilliant movie. I always watch these travel movies, like The Art of Travel, and get all inspired. I've been feeling extra antsy recently anyways, maybe because I'm very ready to move. It's been weird, though, like a few days ago I was on a language kick and was reading all these blogs out loud in the original language to brush up on Spanish and Italian. If I concentrate a bit harder I'm sure I can actually learn Italian, rather than just scrape by. 

Anyways, total off subject, because what I really want to rave on about is the Latin American vistas, indigenous people, motorcycles, and Gael Garcia Bernal.  They're all amazing. The film definitely captures the boys' sense of adventure and freedom as they journey up through Argentina, Chile, Peru, Colombia, and finally Venezuela. Their love of the bike, the difficulties they endure because of it, the mishaps that occur: all so charming, hilarious and heartwarming. Plus, Gael is seriously so handsome.

Just like trends come back around, pieces of clothing do as well. This jean jacket has been around since I was thirteen, serving me well throughout my girly junior high days, my experimental high school days, a stint with punk when I was a freshman in college, and now, it's back. The pins and studs are a little silly, a little juvenile, but I'm into it. It's perfectly worn in, and so comfortable. I've toyed with the idea of messing with it, bleaching it, or studding it more. I don't want it to become a trendy piece, though, and right now the little bit of work I've done on it is easily removable. I love that I can still wear it and plan to wear it for years to come. Funny how a little $2.50 purchase from Fashion Bug can last so long! I paired it with the striped tee, black jeans, and docs to play up its simplicity and classic feel. As you can see, I also can't stop wearing the Fleathers earring. Slightly obsessed.

I want you to stop hiding your VERY cute butt and start wearing cut-offs and bathing suits to show it off.  Everywhere you look people are talking about “who has the best butt” and the people they are raving about are Beyonce, J Lo, and this Kardashion girl and all of them have nice rounded “bootys’ that are bigger then yours.  Curves are IN, skinny is out and your are hiding yours - dumb.  You would look really good in tight cut-offs and instead you go around in baggy capris that are not near as flattering.  You need to show off your ‘assets’!  I would give a lot to have your butt instead of my flat saggy one, and I would show it off.  You have beautiful legs and you hide them too.  So start wearing shorter skirts instead of those “old lady” ones and flaunt what you are lucky enough to have.  One day it will be gone and then you will HAVE to wear old lady clothes, BUT NOT NOW!!!
