these girls both quoted mymble from the moomins as style inspiration, especially for her topknot. i love that this character keeps popping up on my radar! both shots are from hel looks.

valentine honey

i know lace is SO done, but i can't help loving these images. I recently bought a calf length sheer lace dress which i then chopped off to the knee and will possibly cut more- the extra is going to be either a bandeau or bustier top. love the overt sexuality and the layering versatility. so far i've worn it over a cream knit skit and black bandeau. mmm.

em em em em em

this is the very first time metric played handshakes. emily is seriously badass. sorry for the obsessive single topic posting, but honestly this blog follows what i'm into at the moment and i haven't gone a day without listening to metric in weeks so there you have it. i may or may not have problems.

i'm sunburned. is it bad that i'm a little psyched? i was only outside for two hours but that was plenty of time for my winter white skin to turn the color of a redhead's embarrassment.

speaking of which, i'm going red again this week in time for the fashion show. outfit for that is still up in the air. i want to make something super sweet and simple but might not even have time. there are so many projects i have planned after classes are over, though, so fashion show or not, i'll be creating some fun pieces. anyways. can't wait for the big night and seeing my family again. it's been a long five months.

i fought the war but the war won

crackle

this texture is my favorite right now: weathered, distressed, antiqued; whatever you want to call it, i want it on everything from vintage leather satchels to jeans to prints on summer dresses. i would batik everything with a crackle print if it wasn't for the ten hours of labor and the fact that i can't seem to get every last bit of wax out of the fabric. so frustrating, because the end result looks sweeeeet!

instant attraction:

sometimes it takes me a while to get into a band that eventually becomes a favorite, but sometimes, maybe just because of an easy familiarity or recognizable references i can tell off the bat that i'm going to have a song or album on repeat. florence and the machine were an immediate love; my first comparison is kate nash, so they're obviously accessible.

... as i'm writing this and listening through their songs on myspace, i realize i've heard dog days are over many times. usually if i like a song i look it up immediately, so i'm not sure how i've missed these guys.

wow, run-on post. anyways, listen for yourself, dance in front of your computer, sing along!

(note: the video's actually tragic, wish i knew a way to post music without having to hunt down the video. any tips?)

this is not a blog post

loving marc johns: quirky, simplistic drawings with a sense of humor, sometimes on a post-it, which he relishes because of its limited space and history of temporary usage. he gives life to inanimate objects, sees life from their point of view, and finds the absurdity in all things.

broken english reprise

More fractured beauty via google translate:

"At the dinner later: I whirlwind emerald lengths. Moster spiller Riesling on the screen, laughing hysterically. The food tastes like nothing. It turns to gray mass in munvalvet, I swallow the large bites, put your hand against your chest...

...The chair tips over and hits the floor where A stands for the overthrow out. Moster release fork against porcelain. Explains palace that his father used to take him to the opera every year. She forgot. We share the rest of the carafe in the old grave silence."

akiko

This breathtaking shot from Jak and Jil sent me on a hunt for more shoe photos from Akiko Ogawa- they were difficult to track down but at least I was able to find photos of her Spring 2009 collection, which is well worth a look. She's never been on my radar so I haven't seen these before. I'm into the oversize jackets and dramatic ombre.

These shoes were also from the Spring collection. SO sick.

I tracked down photos of her A/W collection, which was more difficult to find despite its showing at NYFW. She stays within a very similar color palette and silhouette, relying once again on ombre and shades of blue though the white of spring is almost universally replaced by grey or black. Standouts include the choppy pixelesque print, the boyish slouch look with flat boots, and the fuzzy (fur?) coat.

Junior

I'm a big fan of early Röyksopp: spacey, trancey, minimalistic. This first single from third album Junior ventures into dance party territory and hits it reasonably well:

Their second single, featuring Swedish pop powerhouse Robyn, KILLS IT. This is good. Justice good. It's over the top in the best way possible, throbbing dancepop bass over and around layered airy vocals meshing with galloping electro synth.... I'm really horrible at describing this but listen for yourself; it's party playlist bound.
